Based in Tyne and Wear.
Buckskin and White skewbald, 6 yrs old.
This is a very pretty little horse with beautiful paces. He was professionally started when he was 4 and has been getting out and about with his loaner.
He is green so obviously needs an experienced person but he is very honest and willing to learn.
He hacks alone and in company and is fine in traffic, you can take him out for a canter/gallop on his own quite happily, and he'll also just stand and wait if others want to canter but you do not.
He started pole work last summer and has recently started jumping and is showing a lot of scope.
He has been hacked by his previous loan home throughout winter so is reluctant to work in an outline presently, though I have been schooling/working with him since getting him back to encourage him to soften and work correctly once more.
Currently ridden in a hanging cheek snaffle.
He can be a little nervous at times in his stable (this only goes as far as him walking to the back of his stable)/handling until he gets to know you so needs someone quiet who won't shout or hit.
He's a sweet horse and has never shown any aggression.
He is fine with the farrier (he is barefoot and has very strong feet), he also travels and loads brilliantly.
He passed his vetting when I bought him, with flying colours and has not had a problem in the time I've known him.
I took him to some shows last summer and he was calm and collected the whole time. He did very well inhand as his paces are to die for. He'd go far in the right hands.
He has never been clipped but has such a fine coat over winter that there has never been any need so far. He will live in or out and has lived out since I've had him.
His only vice is that he is difficult to catch. At the moment he lives out in a private field where the option is there to bring the other horses in and let him follow if he's having one of those days. He is getting much better but ideally needs somewhere off road where (say for example) a gate can be opened and he can be allowed to plod to the yard/stable/field shelter should he decide to be a little monkey. Some days you can walk straight up to him but it varies. He has really bonded with his loaner and is 1000 times better than he was. He is a sensitive little man and needs the time to learn to trust you as far as the catching is concerned.
I believe he has had a bad experience in the past in the field as he sometimes shows fear when he sees the headcollar and leadrope (this is really only in the field rather than the stable). Once you actually have hold he settles right down, I can honestly see this is not naughtiness but uncertainty. He is turned out in a velcro headpiece headcollar and this has helped.
I realise I have highlighted his flaws above but I just want to be honest so that he can get the nice sort of home he deserves.
Experienced adults only, home will be vetted.
I may consider a sale to the right home but if loaned it would be until July 2011 with the possible option of sale or extention. I'm at uni so I would be unable to take him back mid-loan so cannot put a termination period in the contract, but I'd welcome potential homes to come see him as often as they like.
He is only available as finding my own field to rent has been difficult and the yards nearby aren't really suitable- especially if he's living out as it means I can't always catch him if others are in the field. Like I say this varies as he can be a star to catch sometimes, I just don't have the place/facilities to do him justice and help him overcome this issue.
Email will be better than phone but if you leave a message, I will get back to you.
